The HORECA sector is about to take a new step in modernizing its till system. The Belgian administration has confirmed the entry into force of SCE 2.0, a new version of the till system (système de caisse enregistrée) designed to support the sector’s digital transition.

Starting July 1, 2026, new HORECA establishments will be able to use SCE 2.0 directly. For establishments that already have an older system, a gradual transition schedule has been set based on the purchase date of the till.

What is the transition schedule to SCE 2.0?

The FPS Finance (SPF Finances) has set several deadlines depending on the age of the equipment:

  • Tills purchased up to 31/12/2017: mandatory switch by 01/07/2027 at the latest.
  • Tills purchased between 01/01/2018 and 31/12/2021: mandatory switch by 01/07/2028 at the latest.
  • Tills purchased between 01/01/2022 and 30/06/2026: mandatory switch by 01/01/2029 at the latest.

What SCE 2.0 concretely means

The new system is part of the modernization of tax tools and the sector’s digital transition. FPS Finance states that this shift should enable faster tills, better suited to current technologies, with simplified administrative management. Transaction data will be transmitted online to FPS Finance’s cloud server via the new fiscal data module.

Why anticipate now?

Even though the transition is spread out over time, HORECA establishments are advised to prepare their migration as soon as possible. This notably allows them to:

  • check the compatibility of existing equipment;
  • anticipate any update or replacement costs;
  • organize the transition without impacting daily operations;
  • avoid a last-minute migration as the legal deadline approaches.

FPS Finance also specifies that additional information will be communicated soon to allow establishments to check their installation deadline based on their situation.

What should HORECA operators do now?

If you run a HORECA establishment, here are the best practices to put in place starting today:

  1. Identify the purchase date of your current till.
  2. Check your transition deadline.
  3. Contact your till supplier to find out what adjustments are needed.
  4. Plan your migration to SCE 2.0 before the applicable deadline.
  5. Follow official communications from FPS Finance.
